Spirituality, Soul, and the Rise of a Unique New Voice

Released January 7th 2026
Yona is the debut album from WRJC, and needless to say, this is how you set the tone right out of the gate. Hailing from Chicago by way of Nashville, you can immediately detect the musicality of this artist—a seamless blend of soulfulness inherited from two of the world’s greatest musical hubs.
Starting with “11/11” (a nod to the significance of angel numbers) and leading into “Moonsex” (yes, he’s rapping about exactly what you think), it’s clear that WRJC is a unique talent. He manages to infuse his spirituality into a soulful beat selection to craft a refreshing project that is both palatable and deeply personal.
While I typically shy away from comparisons, “Innerchild” carries that early Vic Mensa energy, offering raw vulnerability over an almost early Kanye-esque beat. The project straddles the line between R&B and Rap with precision, as WRJC showcases his versatility by switching effortlessly between crooner and spitter.
Given the underground nature of this project, the production feels like the work of a veteran. WRJC flows over beats that perfectly complement his style and the overarching themes of the album. No track feels out of place or awkward; though the production credits remain largely anonymous, the project is remarkably cohesive. My only critique is the length—at just 8 songs and a little over 17 minutes, it feels more like an EP than a full-length album.
Overall, Yona provides a soulful, unique experience that fans of meaningful music will truly appreciate. As far as debuts go, if this is WRJC’s starting point, I can’t wait to see what he has in store for the future. I highly recommend checking out this ambitious project.
