Bringing the Energy: Denzel Curry & The Scythe Deliver

Released: March 6th 2026
I’m a big Denzel Curry fan and have been excited for him to drop again ever since King of the Mischievous South Vol. 2 came out in 2024. He’s such a talented MC, and when he announced this album, Strictly 4 The Scythe, I got excited. As someone who was constantly saying I wanted more from Denzel & Ferg, this was right up my alley. Denzel put together a dope crew with The Scythe, consisting of himself, Ferg, TiaCorine, BKTHERULA, & Key Nyata. Without further ado, let me dive into this!
With this crew, I expected high energy, and for the most part, that’s what we got. I’m not the biggest fan of every member of The Scythe or every feature, but I thought people brought their A-game for Denzel. Even artists like LAZER DIM 700, 1900 Rugrat, and Luh Tyler—who I’m really not that into—delivered decently. Lyrically, it’s not always the craziest, but that’s not what I’m looking for from this project.
The album starts off really strong with THE SCYTHE, LIT EFFECT, PHONY, & MUTT THAT BIH. These songs bring the most energy, and that’s what I enjoyed most from this crew. I could run those four in a loop. HOOPTY brings energy but within a calmer vibe—one that I really liked. The last three songs here—YOU AIN’T GOTTA LIE, TAN, & UP—were my least favorite tracks. They all turned down the knob as far as intensity and also kinda had a more pop-type vibe. There’s nothing wrong with that, and they delivered on it well; it’s just a style that tends to be more hit-or-miss with me personally. UP was the best of those three songs to me.
This wasn’t perfect, but it was still a fun, dope project to get. I’d love to see more from The Scythe moving forward and hopefully get more projects from the collective. There’s so much this crew could do and make; I’m excited for their future together.
