Album Review: Q45 – Upper Middle-Class Flows

Authentic Lyrical Style and Production

Reviewed By: Marquis “Southside Gunn” Harris

So, for those who don’t know, Q45 is an independent artist currently making waves in the underground scene. Before I even had a chance to listen, I looked at the track list and saw features from Akeem Ali and LaRussell…that let me know there’s a standard to this music already.

Upon listening to the first couple of tracks, I was surprised by how well the album sounded on a production level. The mixes are clean, and there are some real laid-back beats that allow the verses to breathe and take precedence. There might have been a track or two that lacked full cohesion in terms of fitting the project, but overall, the production as a whole was put together well.

Lyrically, the album has its high moments with solid bars. There isn’t anything too “upbeat,” but there’s a level of flexing and realness that allows you, as a new listener, to better understand who the artist is. Feature-wise, everyone does well, and not one feature feels out of place. The lyrical progression and breath control throughout the project are impressive as well.

As a whole, when you look for new artists, this is the type of artist you should listen to. You get authenticity, you get bars, and most of all, you get passion from someone who sounds like they care about what they’re doing, and that’s all you can ask for. Of course, the project could use a little more polish, but for a first impression, it’s not bad.
