Michael Da Vinci: The Art of Conscious Rap

Reviewed By: Marquis “Southside Gunn” Harris

I learned about Michael Da Vinci a few years ago from a feature on YGTUT’s project, and I’ve always been impressed by how smooth of a rapper he is. Michael has really stood out on his features, but being able to carry an entire project with his flows and introspective bars is truly impressive.

Conscious rap is very difficult to do when you’re not authentic, as it often feels disingenuous. Throughout this project, you can hear the pain; you can understand the range of different emotions and feelings. Each track varies in emotional depth, which not only makes it easier to relate to but also helps in digesting the messages as a listener.

The production complements the vibe perfectly. It’s quaint and not over the top, allowing the lyrics to breathe and take center stage, which is crucial. The beats have a jazz feel, featuring nice bass kicks and catchy loops. The cohesion within the project, as the tracks seamlessly blend into one another, is also impressive.

This is a very complete and well-rounded project. It’s smooth melodically and captivating lyrically—definitely a solid offering. Michael Da Vinci showcases his artistry, demonstrating not just his skills as a rapper but also his ability to evoke emotion and connect with his audience. The combination of thoughtful lyrics, excellent production, and his unique style sets him apart in the contemporary rap scene.
