Album Review: Riq Fisher – At What Cost

Riq Fisher: A Unique Voice in Hip-Hop

By: Marquis “Southside Gunn” Harris

A unique rapper in his own right, Riq Fisher has a very good skill set when it comes to wordplay, flow, and storytelling. His album really requires full attention; if you’re not paying attention, you’re gonna miss a crucial element of the song that is key for enjoyment or just understanding where he’s coming from—not just as an artist, but as a man as well.

There are some excellent production choices, such as “I Like” and “Take It Off.” On the other hand, tracks such as “For My Girls” don’t necessarily fit the aesthetic from a cohesive standpoint. This contrast in production choices highlights Fisher’s versatility as an artist, but it can also lead to a disjointed listening experience.

All in all, this is a pretty above-average project that has the foundations of someone who can be a great lyrical storytelling rapper, as well as a talent for creating a banger.

Fisher’s ability to weave personal narratives into his music adds a deeply relatable element to his work, setting him apart from many of his contemporaries. His introspective lyrics can resonate with listeners, allowing them to connect with his experiences on a more personal level. This emotional depth is what ultimately elevates his tracks. At the end of the day, this project is worth your time, so I recommend checking it out.
