Pushing Boundaries

One of the most creative groups in hip hop has decided to push the boundaries even further with this six-track EP. The group goes all in with a more experimental sound that is very coherent throughout. The project does have a grittier, more abrasive sound, which can be off-putting for new listeners if it’s unfamiliar to them. However, this project contains an extensive amount of positive moments.

The production is incredibly layered, featuring industrial beats, a distorted synth sound, and sonic twists that provide a unique experience for the audience. With this off-kilter delivery of their lyrics and some really catchy hooks, the project feels more important as you delve deeper into it.

That said, this project is an acquired taste; not everyone will like or even understand its sound and tone, especially given its lack of mainstream appeal. In some aspects, the project feels one-dimensional, and while pushing the boundaries can enhance the listening experience, it can also detract from it.

The overall theme of the EP revolves around exploring the tension between chaos and order, which is reflected in both the production and the lyrics. Each track demonstrates an evolution of thought, with the artists tackling complex subjects such as identity, society, and personal struggles. This deeper thematic exploration invites listeners to engage not only with the surface-level beats but also the underlying messages that make each song resonate on a more profound level.

However, this project has the potential to change your mind once you grasp the nuances of their different styles. It’s still an enjoyable listen, especially when you’re looking to broaden your horizons.
