Album Review: Vinnie Paz – God Sent Vengeance

A Legend who hasn’t been left behind.

Image of Vinnie Paz, a prominent underground rapper, looking intense and focused, possibly during a performance or interview.

Vinnie Paz is a legend when it comes underground rap… being that he came up in Philly, you know he has a toughness to him, unlike other artists. There was a grittiness to his raps on this project and the overtone is loud, brash and in-your-face.

This project not only has good bars, but you get some really good performances from the features as well. Young Buck delivers his best verse in a long time. We also get an ONYX feature. There isn’t a moment where you feel let down because of flow, cadence or wordplay.

The production is a mixed bag in terms of you don’t know what you’re going to get and you don’t know how the lyrics are going to flow with the beat style. In this case over these tracks, it works. I will admit, this album is an acquired taste. The music for the most part isn’t very relatable and there are times you may have to listen more than a few times to get the gist of what’s being said. But honestly, that’s the fun of the album, just hearing the lyrics and understanding the grit of Vinnie.

Vinnie’s ability to not get lost in the fray over the years is impressive. He has continued to evolve as an artist while maintaining his unique style and has solidified his spot as a legitimate legend in the rap game. When it’s time to rap, he raps. And he’s ready and willing to go toe to toe with anybody.

Front to back, the album is a very solid listen. Stronger in some areas and possibly calmer and chill in others, but it’s got replay value and it’s sonically a nice listen.

Standout Tracks: Bulldozer , Head of David
