A Must-Listen Album

What can I say? In my opinion, Daniel Son and Futurewave are easily among the best MC/Producer duos out there, and arguably the best duo to ever come out of Canada. Baggage Claims is leftover work from their initial collaboration, Pressure Cooker, from 2018. These guys are so good together that even their years-old “scraps” are still amazing.

Coming in at just over 40 minutes and featuring 19 tracks, this album feels like 19 karate chops from two black belts. You know it’s good when you can press play on the first track and not touch a button again until the project ends. From “I Fro” and “Sweet Peppers” to “1973,” “Sweet & Sour Duck,” and “Regular,” this is an incredible project.

I’ve said it before, and I stand by it: Daniel Son has one of, if not the best, ears for beat picking. It’s no wonder he and Futurewave eventually linked up; the skills of these two deserve to be matched with one another. Tracks like “How It Goes,” “Bleed the Shark,” “The Fume,” “Crushed Stones,” and “Villains” showcase crazy production. Futurewave is truly a gem of a producer, and more and more people are realizing his talent.

It’s hard to believe that not only is this album made up of leftovers, but it comes from a 2018 project that was so great it went unreleased at the time. I mentioned it before in my Raz Fresco Stadium Lo Champions review, but this Canadian wave can only go unnoticed for so long before it crashes into that mainstream-underground section of Hip-Hop where Griselda and others thrive.
