Album Review – IAMGAWD & ILL City – City xf Gawd

CHICAGONEVA4GOTHOW2RAP

I got into IAMGAWD last year with Bloodstained Suede II and BS2.5 More Suede and IMMEDIATELY was so happy to have the Chicago sound I love back. And City xf GAWD is a full showcase of GAWDs talents.

IAMGAWD is real Chicago Hip-Hop, and in my opinion one of the main front runners in this new, kind of post drill wave. Coming with music that hits from the Windy City like L.E.P. Bogus Boys did back in 2011, some of my favorite Chicago Hip-Hop ever, IYKYK. This kicks into high gear right out of the gate with ‘Intro (Way Too Easy)’ to ‘Chicago Don’t Raise No Hoes’ with Vic Spencer to ‘Living Nightmares’, this project is all gas no brakes.

Ill City aka Master Ill comes with amazing production throughout, it’s dark, gritty and ominous. Each track feels mean and built for a GAWD. But it’s IAMGAWD that laces these great beats with his crazy different flows, that range from chill and laid back to outright attacking the beat. With a blend of fly bars, street lyrics and introspective thoughts, he’s lifting up the city of Chicago and putting it on his back.

For those that know IAMGAWD, you know this is expected, another amazing notch on his belt and more further proof that CHICAGONEVA4GOTHOW2RAP. Ill City has been on a run of great projects in 2025 and this is a core piece of that run. City xf GAWD has been atop my albums of this year since it dropped and it’s going to take something special to overtake it.

Raw, powerful and grimy. This project is a Hip-Hop head’s bread and butter.

Standout Tracks: Intro (Way To Easy), Chicago Don’t Raise No Hoes, Living Nightmares, City xf GAWD, Devil In His Eyes

Album Rating: 👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑 (9/10)
