Ominous Orchestration

A friend suggested Chuckyy as a potential ObieTriceKenobi Freshman for 2025, so I had to check in. A name I’ve seen but not an artist I’d checked into. So, this was my time to see what the buzz has been about.
Out of the Chicago Drill scene, Chuckyy plays into his namesake with a dark, lurking horror-esque soundscape. This is probably the best thing Chuckyy has going for him. His name isn’t 100% from the Chucky character, but it’s a part that he leans into as he probably should. Like I said, this keeps the production just slightly darker than a lot of drill, and it stands out. Not to say it’s all hits or every beat is perfect, but it’s the highlight for the most part.
Chuckyy himself, is fine. Definitely sounds best over the darkest of the production, but I think that’s a lot of weight carried by the beat. I’ve heard much worse rap than what Chuckyy is presenting but that said, this doesn’t quite hit my preferred flow and rhymes style enough for me to want to listen to it too much. Lyrically, it’s nothing special, but like I always say that’s okay if I can just vibe with the record. I wasn’t doing that much here.
I saw the producer Bugg had his hands all over this and honestly I’d like to hear more production like this from him with some different artists. Chuckyy did enough to make me interested in his future projects. I’ll come back to hear what type of progression he makes. Generally speaking, this album isn’t for me.
Good production, interesting beats and a unique style for sure. Although it’s not my cup of tea so to speak, I understand why people are rocking with him.
