Album Review – GREA8GAWD – GAWD HURTS TOO

Unmasking Vulnerability: A Deep Dive into GREA8GAWD’s Emotional Journey

Image of the artist GREA8GAWD featured in a promotional graphic for the album 'GAWD HURTS TOO' with a personal touch, reflecting themes of vulnerability and emotional storytelling.

I’d been following GREA8GAWD’s features over the last year or two and even checked out his project SNOWDAY last year—maybe right before I started dropping reviews. But now it’s time to catch a recent release and see what GAWD HURTS TOO has to offer!

This is a super personal project from GREA8GAWD. It’s the type I love and respect, but it gets so serious that I can’t handle it day to day like that. Don’t let that deter you, because this is an album that deserves to be listened to. GREA8 talks about incredibly intimate stories involving many members of his family, touching on regret, consequences, and more. I don’t want to deep dive and explain too much because each song tells a story that’s better heard than told by me.

Some of my favorite tracks are “King Doza,” “B.B.L.,” “OL King,” “Ya Pops,” and “Sorry Momma.” These songs resonate with me a bit more than the rest, but really, the quality is high across the board. The production also holds its own here, with beats that fit the content and tone of each song. I’m not sure there’s one I don’t like.

What an outing from GREA8GAWD! Some serious topics are touched upon, all dealt with grace, humility, and strength. Don’t let anyone tell you there’s not a man behind the mask; remember that GAWD HURTS TOO.

Standout Tracks: “King Doza,” “B.B.L.,” “OL King,” “Ya Pops,” and “Sorry Momma”
