Benny Delivers Fans A Solid Sequel

Last year, we got Summertime Butch Vol. 1, and I felt somewhat let down by it, to be honest. Even though a lot of others didn’t love Everybody Can’t Go, I liked it, so the drop from that to SBV1 was disappointing. Luckily, even though this isn’t Benny’s best project at all, it’s a step above Excelsior from earlier this year and two steps above the original Summertime Butch.

The “Summer Feelin’ Intro” is cool for an intro, and I like how it’s used later on Summertime ’25. Starting with Westside Gunn on “Jasmine’s” was a good idea, and I thought Benny sounded great on that beat when he came in. I’m not the biggest Bruiser Wolf fan, but I did like him on the hook for “Hood On Fire.” The verse was decent, but I like the idea of the collaboration a little more than the collaboration itself. “Told You So” was good, but “Summertime ’25” was amazing and is personally my favorite track on this album.

There are some tracks I like less here, like “Hood On Fire,” “77 Club,” “Gold Plated Leica,” and “Pandoras,” but none of them are bad or weigh the project down like some tracks on Summertime Butch Vol. 1. At least I like these; last year, I just felt bored, unfortunately. Some of my top tracks this time are “Lo Lo’s,” “In The Wall” featuring a great Bun B, “Why Would I” with a decent G Herbo feature, and of course, “Summertime ’25.”

I’m glad this is a notch up from some recent releases. Personally, I’m a big Benny the Butcher and GSF fan, so I like to see them release and thrive. While I don’t love all the talk about them not being as good as they were, it also means we need better releases, and I think this is getting things on the right track. Between this and S&S2, people should breathe easy knowing there’s plenty of quality left.

Standout Tracks: “Summertime ’25,” “Told You So,” “Why Would I,” “In The Wall”
