A Mixed Bag of Vibes

Alternative rap truly is a niche space. Within this genre, a select group of artists possess the ability to dive deep, showcasing their creativity and delivering standout performances. However, the challenge arises when it comes to maintaining the listener’s attention throughout an entire project.
At around 40 minutes, the album doesn’t feel overly long, particularly because it is cohesive in its structure. Yet, despite the seamless flow, the quality of the production paired with the lack of substance in the lyrics detracts from its appeal, especially in the latter half. Tracks like “Coast 2 Coast” and “Just Breathe” feel like compositions that any aspiring artist could whip up on Bandcamp, lacking the polished edge that might elevate them.
One of the significant challenges in creating trippy alt-rap is the heavy reliance on production, as the lyrics often take a backseat. Unfortunately, this is where the album falters. While there are moments where you can catch a vibe—especially in tracks like “Yayo” and “Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing”—these standout instances are few and far between. These songs showcase a certain level of excitement that resonates with the listener, but overall, the experience can feel rather mundane outside of these highlights.
This project is undoubtedly hit or miss. While it doesn’t reach the heights of exciting or groundbreaking, it also isn’t terrible; it feels like a missed opportunity. It suffers from being too far left-field, ultimately leaving listeners wanting more depth and innovation. It’s passable, yet it struggles to distinguish itself in a crowded market, existing almost in a vacuum.
