Album Review: Freddie Gibbs & The Alchemist – Alfredo 2

A Culinary Delight of Beats and Bars

These two always bring hard-hitting music, both together and separately. So, “Alfredo 2” quickly became a highly anticipated project as soon as it was announced, and thankfully, we didn’t have to wait long! With Alchemist at the helm and Freddie navigating, it’s hard for much to go wrong here.

As expected, this album is filled with great production from Alchemist—a blend of beauty and grime that works well together. While I generally prefer Freddie on somewhat darker and more aggressive beats, there’s still some of that here, and there’s no doubt this style is still amazing from both Al and Freddie.

The man of the hour himself has no weak moments here. I’m glad we’ve reached a point where Freddie Gibbs gets the hype he deserves pre-release, along with the acclaim he’s earned once the music is out. As someone who’s been a big fan for about 15 years now, I love to see it. His flows and styles switch between songs and moods, featuring hard-hitting lyrics that come off smooth yet aggressive. My main gripe is that I wish he hadn’t sent a diss at Curren$y, but it won’t detract from the album or my score. Some of my favorite tracks so far are “Lemon Pepper Steppers,” “I Still Love H.E.R.,” “Shangri La,” and “Ensalada.”

Thankfully, “Alfredo 2” lived up to the standard set by the first album, and I know it has surpassed it for many. Personally, I can’t jump out on a ledge like that so soon, but it’s another amazing project from this duo and adds yet another hit to both of their respective discographies.

Standout Tracks: “Lemon Pepper Steppers,” “I Still Love H.E.R.,” “Shangri La,” and “Ensalada”
