Album Review: Gunna – The Last Wun

A Disappointing Journey

I’ve never been a Gunna fan, nor have I paid much attention to his music, let alone cared about it. However, after the YSL trial, I can’t lie—he came into my view more than before. So, I took The Last Wun as an opportunity to check out what I’ve been missing and what Gunna had to say. Does a Gunna album live up to the hype? Is it better than Young Thug? Time to find out.

No, lol. No, he doesn’t live up to any hype and doesn’t come close to Young Thug, in my opinion. I wouldn’t say this album is bad, but I found it pretty boring and average in 2025. It doesn’t take a deep dive to hear the sound and vibe that reverberate throughout the album. Apparently, some people love that. As someone who recently got into Young Thug as well, and with these two closely connected, it’s hard not to compare. I just don’t see a world where Gunna is competing with Young Thug based on what I’ve heard.

We need to stop with overly long albums. If you’re going to crack an hour, let’s not have it be 25 mediocre songs. I’d rather have half in April and half in October at this quality level. All that said, Gunna is listenable, so credit where it’s due. Luckily for some artists, I’ve heard such bad music that it gives them more leeway than if I hadn’t been exposed to garbage multiple times. So again, I think this album is listenable and something I could handle if I were forced to listen to it. However, some say being boring and average is worse than being unique and bad; I’ll let you decide.

Believe it or not, I went into this wanting to like it. I always do with every album. Given the amount of time I spend listening, trust me, I approach it hoping for something positive. While this wasn’t “bad,” I found it to be average, with some weak elements. Sometimes I go back to see if I’ve been missing out. Gunna and The Last Wun didn’t make me feel like I’ve missed anything at all.
