Album Review – Casket D. – Dr. Eams

A Manifestation of Gritty Substance

Casket D. is an MC out of Yonkers and the founder of his own label, Mad Gifted & Bothered. Clearly a veteran and an artist, Casket D. puts his heart and his mind into every track here, guided by a beautiful soundscape. So, let’s waste no time and break down this great piece!

It took no time at all for me to sink into this. As the music begins on “Bonnie Prince,” I could feel its hooks sinking in. Then, Casket D. starts spitting about the loss of his grandmother and dealing with that, as the goosebumps crawled over my arms. That’s the kind of vibe this 33-minute project gave me, and those feelings echoed throughout. Not to say Casket is boxed in; he still has concrete bars and street knowledge to kick.

“Courage” stood out early as a song that mixed those personal touches with that rugged edge, but it wasn’t the last. “Alone” and “Warmth” also carry these tones, along with some scattered spots across the whole album. But the main theme here really is loss, and Dr. Eams is the one there for Casket D. to vent to.

What sets this project apart is how Casket D. balances vulnerability with resilience. The production, handled by a talented roster of beatsmiths, complements his flow with soulful samples and hard-hitting drums, creating a cohesive sound that feels both timeless and fresh. This synergy elevates the emotional weight of the album, making every bar hit harder.

This was a really impressive first impression from Casket D. He’s a decade in the game, and you can hear the sharpened pen on display. Dr. Eams doesn’t hold back from getting close and personal with Casket D., and I’m always appreciative when an artist lets you that close. I’ll for sure be seeing what Casket D. has in store moving forward!
