Prepare to discover the voices that are poised to take the hip-hop scene by storm, as we explore their impactful journeys and the immense potential they hold for the future of music.

#20 – MAVI

A young man with shoulder-length dreadlocks, wearing a black T-shirt with 'The Good Company' written on it and a blue baseball cap, poses confidently in a green, blurred outdoor background.

One of the bigger artists on this list, and one I can’t believe didn’t make the Complex list, is MAVI. He is a known entity, putting out introspective and typically laid-back music, such as 2019’s “Let The Sun Talk” and 2024’s “shadowbox.” A multitalented artist, MAVI deserves the spotlight for his work, especially considering he is only 25 as of this writing.

#19 – Dave

A smiling man wearing a green shirt and a green cap in a lively indoor setting.

The lone UK artist on this list, Dave has put in the work and delivered the kind of content that deserves a placement here. Even though it’s been a while since he dropped an album, he has still been featured on major projects, including Central Cee’s CAN’T RUSH GREATNESS and Jim Legxacy’s Black British Music (2025) in 2025, as well as Lyrical Lemonade’s All Is Yellow in 2024. Dave showcases his lyricism in a variety of ways, has multiple high-profile features and co-signs, and, at this point, is a veteran in the game—yet he is still only 27.

#18 – Ghais Guevara

A performer holding a microphone on stage, wearing sunglasses and a headband, with vibrant lighting creating a dramatic atmosphere.

Ghais Guevara is someone bridging the gap between modern rap sounds and traditional hip-hop tastes. He blends various styles and sounds with strong artistry, lyrics, flows, and melodies. With two releases this year, “Goyard Ibn Said” and “Full Goyard,” Ghais is a name I keep seeing more and more, and soon you will too.

#17 – MIKE

A smiling man with dreadlocks sitting on a stool, wearing a light-colored shirt with a graphic design, and blue pants.

MIKE is a leader in the underground, emerging from it higher and higher into the mainstream spotlight. With albums that many love this year, including “Showbiz!” and “Pinball 2,” adding to his discography, there’s not a corner in hip-hop where you won’t find a MIKE fan.

#16 – Navy Blue

A man with braided hair and a beard stands thoughtfully in a well-lit room, wearing a dark t-shirt.

It’s hard to dive deep into the underground before Navy Blue starts to show up for you. There’s a reason for that: a true poet and lyricist, Navy Blue has earned the acclaim he holds through artistry and consistency. His last release was 2024’s “Memoirs in Armour,” which is widely acclaimed.

#15 – Imani Nichele

A person smiling while seated among several balloons, wearing a hat and a striped shirt, in a dimly lit environment.

Imani Nichele is a young poet, rapper, and singer; she does it all with precision. Her 2024 album “MERRY & RUE” has been a standout not only in the female MC category but also in the year’s overall output. That said, I consider her one of the upper-echelon female artists who belongs in the conversation with the top lyrical names.

#14 – jev.

A young man sitting against a plain wall, wearing a black outfit and looking thoughtfully into the distance.

A well-traveled young man, jev. is filled with experiences, and he feels like a branch off the best of the 2010s trees. He stretches the boundaries of what hip-hop can be while also maintaining its core essence. His last drop was in 2024 with “when angels cry,” but that doesn’t mean he hasn’t been building and grinding in the meantime. He is someone that many will love as soon as they discover him.

#13 – A-F-R-O

A person with curly hair wearing a black t-shirt featuring 'Courage the Cowardly Dog,' standing in front of a wall covered with stickers and posters.

A-F-R-O has been around for a minute, if your in tune you’ve probably seen or heard of him in some shape or form. Still very young and early in his career all things considered, a voice that’s distinct and an elite lyricist to boot. With multiple releases in the last few years, A-F-R-O’s fully in gear and ready to make waves in Hip-Hop once again.

#12 – Joey Valence & Brae

Two young male artists pose together against a sunset backdrop, one wearing a white shirt with a red graphic and the other in a black t-shirt, showcasing their distinctive style.

Joey Valence & Brae are a duo rising at an incredible rate. They bring a style that blends hip-hop with elements of dance, electronic, punk, and other genres, all infused with fun and energy. Their 2024 release, “NO HANDS,” is a skipless album, and if they hadn’t leaned a little too far into the pop sound on “HYPERYOUTH” for my tastes, this duo would be even higher on this list.

#11 – Key Glock

A portrait of a man wearing a black t-shirt and a large necklace with a pendant, seated in a throne-like chair, exuding a confident expression.

Young Dolph’s protégé, Key Glock, is representing for Memphis the right way. Standing on business and consistently dropping dope music like “Glockaveli” and “Glockaveli: All Eyez On Key,” both released in 2025, Key Glock holds it down for the South properly, without a doubt, and would make Young Dolph proud.

#10 – Lord Sko

A person with long hair wearing a cap and a leather jacket, leaning on a balcony railing with a cigarette, set against a brick wall backdrop.

Don’t let Lord Skos’ long hair and stoned look fool you; this dude is a straight rhyme spitter. This Uptown MC comes with lifestyle rap vibes and East Coast lyricism. His 2025 release, “PIFF,” showcases that, but he’s been at it for a few years now.

#9 – Ro$ama

A man in a striped shirt and red baseball cap smiles while lifting his hat, showcasing jewelry and a confident demeanor against a neutral background.

An artist signed to BigXThaPlug and took his place on this list seeing as he’s the real pen behind the hit song “The Largest” and who knows how many others. along with holding his own on the 600 mixtape “MEET THE 6IXERS” in 2024 and his own project “Orange Tape” in 2025 that was great. If you like BigXThaPlug but don’t want that country touch, like myself, then Ro$ama is for you.

#8 – D2x

A smiling individual in a blue hoodie stands with arms crossed in front of a brick wall featuring graffiti, on a street lined with trees.

A bright spirit that’s hard to ignore, even if you wanted to, D2x is pushing positivity and encouragement through his beautiful music. He has released an album each year for the last few years, with “Boy In The Blue Hoodie” in 2025 and “THE HUNGER ERA” in 2024 really putting him on my personal radar. Steadily rising, D2x is a figure to keep an eye on as he blooms.

#7 – Samara Cyn

A young woman smiling with her eyes closed, showcasing ornate grillz on her teeth, and wearing a sleeveless white top. She has long, braided hair and multiple necklaces.

Samara Cyn has showcased her talents enough to earn a spot on the 2025 XXL Freshman cover and was one of the few who deserved it. Her debut album, “The Drive Home,” was released last year and is one of the bigger names on this list. If you haven’t heard her yet, it’s time to tap in and catch up.

#6 – That Mexican OT

A man wearing sunglasses and a black cowboy hat, showing a big smile, poses in a car with a leather jacket.

Rap-wise, it’s hard to debate That Mexican OT’s talent and skill set. Since “Lonestar Luchador” in 2023, That Mexican OT has displayed his abilities and love for the genre while pushing its boundaries as well. In 2025, we received “Recess” and “Chicken & Sauce” with Sauce Walka—two projects that weren’t quite at the level of his previous work, but I believe That Mexican OT can return to the heights he reached before once again.

#5 – Ovrkast.

A young man wearing a black hoodie with text displaying streaming service payouts. He has curly hair and is looking downward against a plain background.

An artist I was surprised didn’t make the XXL list this year, Ovrkast makes high-quality hip-hop and has even worked with people on this list as well as bigger names like Vince Staples. His album released this year, While The Iron Is Hot, is a standout and one that’s easy to recommend to anyone.

#4 – Recoechi

A young man with long, twisted hair and a beard sits in a small, cluttered space filled with colorful boxes and items, exuding a relaxed yet confident demeanor.

An artist out of Chicago, raised on Chief Keef before discovering the likes of Tupac and J. Cole, his music reflects this blend of raw aggression, artistry, and poetry. Featured alongside some high-powered names in his city, like Ju Jilla, and dropping his own amazing album, FLAVAZ, in 2025, Recoechi is making waves.

#3 – Dialect Tre

A female artist passionately performing on stage with a microphone, wearing a black varsity jacket and large hoop earrings.

Dialect Tre is still very young but already held highly by some of the best in her city, Chicago. It only takes a listen to her 2025 album “Rabbit Season” to see why. Deep thoughts, reality raps, and precision bars. Still early in her career, but I see some very bright things in her future.

#2 – Miquo

A young man with tattoos stands on a rooftop, wearing a white tank top and black jeans, surrounded by industrial equipment and a city skyline.

An incredible artist out of Houston that embraces the roots of the city, but is in no way confined by them. He’s proved himself a few times over the years, and with his EP this year “E$iDE $CREWUP” Miquo showed hes as on point as ever. A lyricist and rhyme flipper, Miquo is a gem that needs uncovered by the masses.

#1 – La Reezy

A close-up photo of a young man wearing a blue shirt and a cap, standing outdoors with a house featuring pink shutters in the background, looking directly at the camera.

This young man is the epitome of the youth loving and embracing hip-hop in its purest form. This year, he released “Welcome To La Reezyana Vol. 1” and “Pardon Me, I’m Different” with PJ Morton—two vastly different projects, both of which are incredibly good. Already receiving co-signs from Kendrick Lamar and Tyler, the Creator, you need to wake up and stop sleeping on La Reezy if you haven’t already.

As we conclude our spotlight on the 20 best upcoming rappers in their 20s, it’s clear that the future of hip-hop is in incredibly capable hands. These artists are not only showcasing their immense talent but are also pushing the boundaries of the genre, blending styles and crafting sounds that resonate with a diverse audience. Each of them brings a unique perspective and an authenticity that sets them apart in a crowded industry.

With such promising careers ahead, it’s exciting to imagine where their journeys will take them. Whether through thought-provoking lyrics, infectious beats, or powerful performances, these rising stars are destined to leave a lasting imprint on the music landscape. As they continue to evolve and grow, be sure to keep an eye on their progress—their influence on hip-hop is just beginning. So, if you haven’t already, dive into their music, support their work, and witness firsthand the transformation of a genre that thrives on innovation and creativity. The next wave of hip-hop greatness is here, and it’s only going to get better.
