Album Review – Recoechi – FLAVAZ

Chicago, You got another one

I’m not sure I’ve seen a better artist bio and description than Recoechi’s on Spotify. It states that he grew up on Chief Keef but eventually discovered artists like Tupac and J. Cole, which unlocked another dimension for him. His album FLAVAZ feels like that. At times, it’s aggressive, raw, and unleashed, while many moments are very musical, lyrical, and soulful.

The way Recoechi can flip from raw aggression to lyrical and soulful is dope and keeps you constantly anticipating what’s next. With flows and rhymes on point, Recoechi lays out gritty street tales and poetic paintings for us to enjoy. Jumping from songs like FLAVAZ to DA GODLY and then transitioning to something like PIE or GOLDEN showcases great album flow and artistic range.

Bringing a street tone to the art room, don’t let my mention of aggression sell this album the wrong way. These are beautiful songs, and Recoechi sounds like a master at putting deep thoughts on the page already. If anything, I kind of wish this had just a splash more of the style from FLAVAZ on MOMENTS. But I appreciate the balance that Recoechi provides here.

I realized after listening to this a few times that I had actually heard Recoechi recently on an album I rated highly, Reach Higher by Ju Jilla. He shined on the track he was on, and now I see he’s just a shining star, period. A bright young talent out of the city of Chicago, Recoechi is an MC I can’t wait to see more from.
