Album Review -Snow Tha Product – Before I Crashout

Snow Tha Product stands on business with an assertive 30 track project

Album cover of Snow Tha Product's 'Before I Crash Out' featuring the artist lying on green grass, wearing sunglasses and a black shirt with the phrase 'GOD BLESS ALL LATINAS'.

I was always a small fan of Snow Tha Product—never fully followed her or kept up with everything, but I always seemed to enjoy what I heard from her and wanted to see her succeed. When I saw this album was upcoming, I figured it was about time for me to tune into a full project and finally see what Snow can do with some space. And with Before I Crashout being over an hour long, she had plenty of room to work.

This West Coast Latina doesn’t hide anything; her style and culture seep through her music, and it goes hard. A blend of styles and sounds is present and working well, but it maintains a West Coast base at its root. Along with the way Snow Tha Product mixes in Spanish lyrics, sounds, and singing, this album has a Latin influence brushed across it, and I love it. Snow has a style that at times reminds me of one of the biggest female rappers, but everything feels and sounds more authentic and natural coming from her.

With a lot on her mind, Snow Tha Product isn’t holding back. She’s never been one to be anything but herself, and this album is no different. She lets us know she feels held back, underappreciated, and overlooked as an artist—and rightfully so. There’s a ton of great tracks here, and Snow gets to flex her different skills and styles. That said, I do think this is too long, both in overall length and in the number of songs. One hour and ten minutes across 30 tracks is just a bit too much. I don’t love having 30 tracks that have to start and end within a single album; it can become overwhelming. There are a couple of songs I’d remove—ones in the style of “Sorry X Tus Suegros” were my least favorite—but even those still feel like they have their place. The quality doesn’t have many dips; I think maybe this should have just been split into a Vol. 1 and Vol. 2.

Clearly, I’ve been missing out by not keeping up with Snow Tha Product more. She’s been around long enough, making dope music, that she deserves more attention and shine, in my opinion. It was few and far between that I had songs or moments I wasn’t interested in, and quickly after, I was pulled back in. Like I said, my main issue is just the length—and even more so the track count. But more of a good thing can’t be too bad!
