GEE$ display of consistency is inching him closer to the recognition he deserves

Ever since I first discovered GEE$ earlier this year and heard DINERO & AFTER DINERO, I’ve been a fan. Not to mention, he’s the one who—after a review—told me the longer format I do now is the way, and I appreciate him for that feedback. In the midst of a hectic personal year, this Virginia MC ended up getting the needed room to create and gives us THIS WASN’T PLANNED.

A true hustler, GEE$ makes hustler music. Coming with his own flows and style, GEE$ guts that into a classic, laid-back sound. There are uplifting vibes like “WINE ORDERS,” “FIRST SUNDAY,” “HEAVEN KNOWS,” & “HOME SWEET HOME,” and then there are more street and raw tracks like “UNEXPECTED,” “RING THE ALARM,” “DARK KNIGHTS,” “CINEMATIC,” & “FRANKLIN SAINT.” The balance between these styles meshes well and flows smoothly.

Along with that hustler mentality comes accountability. When “UNEXPECTED” kicks in and GEE$ says, “If we fall and take a loss, everything is on me,” he means it. Bosses have to step up, and GEE$ does that. “RING THE ALARM” has GEE$ showing out as a Don or a Black superhero, ripping through bars over this menacing beat. And then a song like “FIRST SUNDAY” has GEE$ spitting rhymes that encourage and uplift those around him—and himself—in the process. And again with the accountability when he says, “Who gon’ take us to the promise land if it ain’t me? I doubt we fall short; if we do, you can blame me.” That’s the attitude of a leader, and this album is leaking it—it’s so packed with leadership.

This makes it 3/3 in the last 3 years with drops from GEE$. This MC is bubbling in the underground but has the ability to break through, in my opinion. He’s got a great flow, great lyrics, and great direction. Always putting on strong for Virginia, GEE$ is an artist to keep a close eye on.
