Lifestyle Rap & Player Vibes: A Deep Dive into The Diamond Tape

Released: December 5th 2025
D’so Nyce is a rapper out of Chicago who hit my radar a bit ago. I had been planning on getting into his project, The Diamond Tape, for a while. Last week, for the final Round Table podcast of the year, we did a live review of a D’so Nyce song—a review you’ll have to go watch! That sparked me to make sure I dove into this album before the year ended, so here I am.
D’so Nyce brings a super smooth, laid-back style—a mix of “lifestyle rap” with an extra dash of “player shit” mixed in. I really like the sound and vibe he’s going for here. Occasionally, he uses a flow that doesn’t 100% work for me, but in my opinion, that often comes with the lifestyle rap territory. Usually, it’s a style I have to grow into, and I think that will happen the more I hear from him.
Lyrically, D’so Nyce sticks to the vibe and keeps things player, which I don’t mind at all. However, I did think some of his singing and melodic moments were hit-or-miss. There were tracks where I was feeling the delivery, but other times it didn’t land as well. It’s almost a “pimpin’” style of singing at times, which I like in theory, but it didn’t always connect.
Overall, this is a good project. I like the sound and the vibe, and D’so Nyce grew on me the more I listened. While some flows and melodies didn’t quite grab me—and nothing struck me as a massive standout track—everything maintained a consistent level of “cool.” It didn’t necessarily blow me away, but I might just need more time and more projects. D’so Nyce reminds me a bit of Larry June, whom I’m a fan of, but also had to grow into over time.
