The Queen of Philly Returns: Why Jill Scott’s 2026 masterpiece was worth every second of the wait.

Released: February 13th 2026
It’s been too long since we got a Jill Scott album. Funnily enough, of all the long-awaited projects we’ve received so far in 2026, the new Jill Scott just might be the most worth the wait. From the incredible music and vocals to the lyricism across this hour-long album, there is no filler or skips here—just an incredible body of work.
The many faces of this album lend to its beauty. There’s so much positivity and cheerful music, but it’s balanced with a sprinkling of sadness, struggle, humor, and sensuality. The way Jill Scott expresses not only herself but also the world around her is second to none. Her lyrics are filled with thoughtful messages and personal stories, brought to life with skills that stand among the best in both rapping and singing abilities. As Jill belts out across this project, never once does it feel like she’s reaching for a sound or selling out.
The blend of musical styles spans genres and decades, flowing together seamlessly. Every song offers something special, but I have to highlight a few favorites. “Be Great” helps kick things off strong with an affirmation mode that I love—and always need in my life. “Ima go ‘head and be great, why not?” Jill asks, before proving she is better than great throughout the entire album. “Norf Side” with Tierra Whack was dope; both spit great verses, but Jill really shines, especially on that third verse.
“Pressha” is a great groove that shines a light on the pressure to conform and “appear just like them.” It’s a song that stirs up raw emotion through the lyrics, the production, and Jill’s melody. “The Math” is fantastic, offering a splash of classic poetry and spoken word in an impressively smooth way. “Liftin’ Me Up” is that rare, celebratory love song—I’ll absolutely be playing this (and the whole album) all summer. Finally, “Don’t Play” highlights how Jill can be sexual without losing that signature balance; she knows exactly how to walk the line.
I could go on and on, but I’d rather just shut up and let you go listen. This is an incredible album, and Jill Scott truly delivered after the long hiatus. Hopefully, we won’t have to wait quite as long for the next release, but I’ll take what I can get when the music is served like this. Thank you, Jill!
