I’m not sure when the last time was that I caught a full Chief Keef project—to be honest, it might have been around the time of his debut, Finally Rich. It’s crazy that it’s been almost 15 years. Both Chief Keef and I have grown a lot since then, and I was excited to check out his latest album, Skeletor.

As I listened through the album, I began to understand why his style might not have resonated with me when I was younger. People might think I’m too focused on flows and rhymes now, but back then, I was even more of a “purist.” It wasn’t the lyrical content that held me back from being a fan; it was the flow, delivery, and beat selection. All of those elements felt significantly improved—or at least more aligned with my current tastes—here on Skeletor.

There weren’t any songs I disliked, which is always a plus. The second half was slightly stronger than the first, which worked out well since I was a bit mixed on some of the earlier tracks. While a few songs didn’t completely blow me away, there were plenty of dope tracks to balance it out. Some of my favorites were “The Real Chief Keef,” “Harry Potter,” “Only For The Night,” “Slide,” “Shrek And Donkey” (a hilarious title for a song), “Talking Ish,” and “Doja.”

I’m impressed by this album and have gained a new appreciation for Chief Keef. I might have to backtrack through his catalog to see exactly when his music started clicking for me like this. Shoutout to Chief Keef for his longevity and success!
