Curren$y & Wiz Back in Perfect Sync

Right as I’m out, they pull me back in! Of course I’m a huge Curren$y fan, but I’d been mixed on a lot of Wiz’s latest projects and had even announced I was taking a break. Still, there was no way I could skip a joint project from these two. Thankfully, almost every issue I’ve had with Wiz’s recent albums has been corrected here — and this one hits exactly how it should.
When Curren$y and Wiz Khalifa connect, they rarely miss, and Roofless Records For Drop Tops: Disc 1 is another solid addition to their catalog. Both artists excel at that signature active stoner, high-hustler talk that I love so much — blending laid-back vibes with ambitious, bossed-up energy.
The album kicks off strong with “Close Your Eyes,” a smooth, vibey opener produced by Foley and Cardo Got Wings. It flows straight into “Jet Life Taylor,” a perfect ode to both of their brands, their crews, and the loyal fan bases that have ridden with them for years.
Tracks like “Stoned and Leave” lean into relatable humor, capturing that familiar feeling of dealing with someone who just wants to smoke and bounce. At times the project feels Wiz-heavy, largely because he handles every hook, giving it the slight feel of a Wiz Khalifa album featuring Curren$y. But credit where it’s due — Wiz really stepped up and delivered strong, consistent verses throughout. I also appreciated the no-features approach on this disc; it keeps the focus purely on the chemistry between the two. That said, since this is only Disc 1, a few well-placed guest spots on Disc 2 could add nice flavor without hurting the vibe.
Some of my standout tracks include “Close Your Eyes,” “Jet Life Taylor,” “So Many Flavors,” “How Could I Lose,” “The Same One,” and “Rrari Twins.”
All these years later, Curren$y and Wiz still sound great together. It had been a minute since their last project, and this one instantly ranks as one of my favorites from them. I might even need to revisit some of their older collabs to compare. Most importantly, I’m genuinely excited for Disc 2 — which doesn’t always happen with split albums. Let’s see what they cook up next.
Standout Tracks: Jet Life Taylor, So Many Flavors, Stoned And Leave, The Same One, Rrari Twins
