Grunge, Grit, and Versatility: Kenny Mason Delivers on BULLDAWG

Released May 12th 2026
Easily one of the most unique artists coming out of the “A” and fresh off his series of EPs aptly titled Pup Packs, Kenny Mason finally dropped BULLDAWG to complete the lead-in. Unsurprisingly, this album ranges from grunge to rap over soul beats, giving listeners and fans the full offering from this versatile artist. While there are moments that are beyond my personal musical taste, there is no doubt that BULLDAWG is a carefully crafted project and one of the better drops in an already quality-packed year for album releases.
Personally, I love when a project has a strong lead-in, and BULLDAWG upholds that standard well; “BULLKILLER” and “BOUNCE WIT ME” are two of the stronger songs on the project. This run eventually leads into “WHATUWANNASAY?!”, which may throw those unfamiliar with Kenny’s versatility for a loop. With its unique, garage-style grunge sound, it might not be my cup of tea, but I can appreciate that the track is well-executed. One thing is for sure and two for certain: you will not get bored with this project, as the remaining songs give you everything from bouncy trap cuts (“BLACK FIT”) to introspective positivity (“FIND GOD”). My only criticism is that the variety may disrupt the cohesiveness of the album. And while I enjoyed most of the grunge moments, “STREET CAR” (a little too Hot Topic-y for my taste) was a personal skip.
While few and far between, there are notable features from Paris Texas and fellow Atlantan JID. While Paris, Texas delivered as expected on “BE WHAT I WANT,” I was a little disappointed with the track “TEST ME.” JID did his usual—barring up the track—but I found the production a little boring for a track that seemed built for rapid-fire back-and-forth, which it ultimately failed to deliver. Overall, though, the production and features were on point.
All in all, I can say BULLDAWG is definitely one of the better projects in Kenny’s discography, continuing his consistent run of quality music. I recommend everyone check it out; with such a diverse array of sounds, you are guaranteed to find at least a few tracks to add to a dope playlist.
