Melodic Meltdown: Why HABIBTI Fails to Live Up to the Hype

Released May 15th 2026
What most people including myself consider album 2 of 3 of this ICEMAN drop, we have HABIBTI. An album that’s much more melodic and focused on the ladies. Is it an album for the ladies though? I’m not sure. But I’ll get into all that!
Without a doubt things take a slower role here in HABIBTI than ICEMAN. Drake gets more melodic and the production gets gentler. Generally this is not my favorite style from Drake, the production style just isn’t my favorite for Drake rapping. I do like some of his singing but not all of it, and with this production, again it just isn’t my favorite for his vocals. A different story on MAID OF HONOUR. So a whole album of this just doesn’t hit fully for me. That’s kind of the issue with releasing multiple albums and having them have such specific sounds each.
Outside of the fact that this isn’t the niche from Drake I like the most, I found the lyrical content of HABIBTI to be really bad. I get this is not new but the way he talks about women on his album is terrible. A song like High Five has Drake talking about high diving Hus guys after fucking a girl for free. This dude is almost 40 years old, like c’mon. Throughout HABIBTI Drake and relationships go back and forth. On one hand he is upset that women are mistreating him and hanging with other guys, on the other hand he’s stealing other guys girls and treating them like shit too. So it all sounds like a terrible karmic circle and I don’t feel bad or sad through these songs or anything like that. I know sometimes girls like this kind of drama/relationship music, but the way Drake treats women through the songs on this album and even MAID OF HONOUR is rough.
HABIBTI was easily my least favorite album between it, ICEMAN & MAID OF HONOUR. The production, the lyrics and the vibe all aren’t really my style and I don’t think there’s a song on this album I’ll be adding into my regular rotation.
