Album Review: Lil Gotit – PG13

Shoes Unfilled

Lil Gotit is an Atlanta artist who brings a clear Young Thug influence to his sound. Normally, I avoid comparing artists directly, but in this case, Lil Gotit’s own bio highlights the connection, so it feels fair game. He does add his own flavor—as any artist should—but the question remains: is it distinct enough to stand on its own?

Musically, he delivers a melodic rap/sing hybrid that immediately evokes Young Thug. For me, though, the vocals and flows don’t quite hit the same level as peak Thug. There’s a slippery, unpredictable quality to Thug’s best work that feels harder to replicate than it looks. Lil Gotit’s delivery is solid, but it could benefit from sharper precision and more dynamic phrasing. With time and refinement, that gap could close.

The production on PG13 is a bit of a mixed bag. Since this is a short project, I won’t judge his overall taste too harshly based on such limited material. Still, several beats fell flat for me—particularly “Carl Lewis,” “Trimati,” and “Tsunami Warning.” Many of the instrumentals also blend together with a similar vibe and energy, which makes the project feel a little repetitive by the end.

That said, keeping things short and sweet works in its favor. Lil Gotit doesn’t make bad music. Nothing here is painful or grating to sit through, even after multiple listens. At the same time, I didn’t feel compelled to save any tracks for a personal playlist. The standout moments came when the beats aligned best with his style: “Obviously,” “Hold Up,” and, to a lesser extent, “Travis Barker.”

I can see the appeal, especially for fans of that melodic Atlanta wave. As someone who only became a big Young Thug fan later in his career, I suspect Lil Gotit might grow on me with more exposure and evolution. Right now, his music doesn’t quite scratch the same itch—understandable when the comparison is so direct—but that doesn’t mean it can’t in the future. This won’t be my last time checking for him. I’m curious to see where he takes the sound next.
