Album Review – Key Glock – PROJECT X

PROJECT X: All Function, No Peak

Last year, I really enjoyed Key Glock’s Glockaveli album. Even though I didn’t love the deluxe extensions, Key Glock still delivered some strong music throughout 2025. Now in 2026, he’s back with an all-new project titled PROJECT X—a 20-track album that brings consistent heat and flows smoothly from start to finish. The big question, though, is whether it tops his past projects and standout hits.

From what I can tell, PROJECT X draws inspiration from the 2012 movie of the same name, which centered on a wild, out-of-control house party. The album captures a similar vibe: most of the tracks feel like they were made for the function—energetic, bouncy, and filled with party-ready energy. The themes Key Glock explores align with that chaotic, carefree mood. Sonically, it’s not a drastic departure for him, but it lacks some of the richer, more soulful production choices that elevated Glockaveli and made it stand out to me. The project is aided heavily by the late Tay Keith (rest in peace) and other producers like King Wonka and Oh Ross, who keep the beats hard-hitting and atmospheric.

This is an interesting case where the album is solidly good—I can play it straight through without any real urge to skip tracks. At the same time, that ease comes partly from the fact that nothing truly jumps out as a massive highlight. There’s no single song that grabs me by the collar and demands repeat listens for weeks, the kind Key Glock has delivered plenty of times before. Nothing here is bad by any stretch; the quality is consistent and reliable. Still, I wasn’t left overly impressed or blown away, which isn’t quite what I expected going in.

I recently saw a clip from an interview where Key Glock mentioned he’s started drinking, something he didn’t do in the past. I think that shift has a noticeable influence on the album’s tone and energy—something I don’t necessarily mean in a negative way. You can feel a looser, more indulgent spirit running through several tracks. That said, I hope he approaches this new vice with real self-control, especially picking it up later in life.
