Album Review: D12 – D12 Forever (Vol. 1)

Kuniva and Swifty McVay hold down the legacy in a feature-heavy, nostalgic return

Released June 19th 2026

I’ve said it before, but I’ve been a big D12 fan for a long time. D12 World and Devils Night especially are both albums I love and have always wanted more music from the group. Back in 2018 on Kamikaze, Eminem spoke on D12 on the track “Stepping Stone” and more or less said he was done making music with the group, even though he had love for them all. So this is D12 missing more members than ever, but the members who are here showed out!

With Bizarre and Denaun also missing here, the album is left to Kuniva and Swifty McVay. And although it’s a bare-bones version of the group, for me personally, Kuniva and Swifty McVay are my favorite members of D12 right behind Eminem. So this album worked well for me still. Plus, they have a slew of features here to aid them, including what I’m assuming is unreleased content from Proof & Bugz. I thought maybe Denaun would produce some here, but it was almost all Jake Bass from what I saw, from the Bass Brothers. The album brings everything you’d expect from D12: great rapping and lyricism filled with humor, emotion, and storytelling.

Starting with a PSA just like the past, it’s a quick and fun throwback before getting into “My Salsa.” A song I think everyone wanted to be the one to have an Eminem feature if we got one—maybe someday we’ll get a remix. “Tear It Down” follows and is good, but I’m not big on the rock vibe, which makes it a song I’m not huge on. “Proof and Eli” is a track with Proof on it and his son ELI BLE$$ED, and it was really cool to get to see that collab. Meanwhile, “Better Dayz” brings a great message that pushes that better days are coming for those that feel like life’s not worth the stress. I really like and appreciate the clear and distinct content in almost every song.

“Kill The Engineer Pt. 1” tells a funny and detailed story between Swifty McVay & Kuniva like few do in modern Hip-Hop. “Tenderize,” “Dirty Nation,” and “Still Hating” bring a large slew of the features on the album between Method Man, George Clinton, and Tech N9ne, King Iso & Sly Pyper respectively. “Bugz ‘98” has a verse from Bugz that, like “Proof and Eli,” I’m assuming is some unreleased content. Followed by “Even Kings Kneel,” a song with Proof, Kuniva, & Swifty McVay all together which was really dope. “What If?” has the D12 members asking hypothetical questions you can’t blame them for wondering, followed by “Forever” as the last song—one that has Proof spitting once again and D12 letting everyone know that D12 is forever no matter what.

This album may not be for everyone, but I think most real D12 fans will find a lot to enjoy. I get having issues and wanting more, but that may never happen. I love getting more music from Swifty McVay and Kuniva, and I hope we get a Vol. 2. If you were ever into D12, I’d say give this a shot at least!
