Memphis Legends Link Up: Juicy J and Project Pat Balance Heavy Bars with Hard-Earned Wisdom on Dem Goats

I saw this album was gearing up about a week before its release, and that’s all I needed to see. A Juicy J and Project Pat album? Yup, I’m tuning in for sure. Dem Goats is a fitting title for these two anytime they link up. Frankly, the album would have had to actively try to disappoint, yet it didn’t.

Dem Goats is a full hour of these two brothers going back and forth, spitting game of all sorts. Of course, there are street bars, stuff to smoke weed to, and high-energy tracks, but both Juicy J and Project Pat have been through plenty of ups and downs in their respective lives and have a lot of wisdom to offer. “Out of Order” has the duo setting folks straight, as Pat’s hook says, “Even the opps is solid, man, you out of order.” “Don’t Do It” pushes the message not to commit crimes, scam, and all that—a message I appreciate and one that isn’t seen as often from bigger-name artists. Meanwhile, “Blessing in Disguise” has Juicy and Pat recognizing that the hard times we all go through can be a blessing in hindsight once you learn from them. There are multiple other songs on the project that speak on real-life experiences just like these.

The album features some dope and interesting guests. While I liked some more than others, they kept things engaging over the hour-long runtime. Artists like That Mexican OT, Anderson .Paak, Killer Mike, Snoop Dogg, KARRAHBOOO, Hanumankind, and more are featured, but the project never feels overwhelmed by its guests. We even get to hear the late, great Gangsta Boo—rest in peace—while G9ngstab9by intros the track “Hold On.” “Yes Lord” featuring Lecrae and Kenneth Williams is one of the better songs in that style I’ve heard in a while, a track that Project Pat absolutely smoked. Some of my other favorite songs on Dem Goats outside of the ones I’ve already mentioned are “Still the Same,” “Cut All That,” “Life Be Lifing,” “Tap,” and “To Be Real Witcha.”

This was an amazing album, and seeing Juicy J and Project Pat together will always make me happy. I’ve been a big Juicy J fan during his recent run of releases, and Project Pat always stays fresh whenever he hops on a track. If you’re a fan of these two, there’s absolutely no reason you should be skipping Dem Goats.
