Album Review – Rome Streetz – Sock It 2 My Pocket

Elite Grit and Seamless Heat

Rome Streetz is an MC who’s always worth tuning in for whenever he drops. Fresh off the Boldy James collaboration album Manhunt earlier this year, he returns with his latest solo project, Sock It 2 My Pocket—his first since Trainspotting. Many are already calling it his best work since KISS THE RING, and it’s hard for me to disagree.

The album kicks off strong with “Yellow Brick Road,” and the momentum barely lets up. The beat switches and clever transitions on that opener flow seamlessly into “Son Of A Gun.” One of the early standouts is “’95 Mega On Shrooms” featuring Styles P, who absolutely cooks as usual. That energy carries through multiple stellar guest spots, including the luxurious “Prada In The Polaroid” with Lloyd Banks, the gritty “Marathon Or Race” with Westside Gunn, and “Taylor Made Wave” with OX OMNI. True to form, Rome brings sharp street and hustler bars throughout, delivered at an elite level with a variety of flows that keep the project feeling dynamic and fresh.

Of course, not every track hits the same for me, but the overall quality on Sock It 2 My Pocket is impressively high and consistent. The only real misses for me are toward the end—“Time & Place” and “I Don’t Know”—which never quite clicked despite multiple spins. Favorites include “’95 Mega On Shrooms,” “Belt 2 Ass,” “Prada In The Polaroid,” “Cocaine Coltraine,” “Dreamcatcher,” and “Shoot Your Trophies.”

Rome Streetz really delivered here. He showcases a multitude of flows while maintaining that signature gritty lyricism, and the production complements it perfectly. This is easily one of his strongest albums in years and a new high mark in his discography. If you’re a fan of real hip-hop, this one’s not to be missed.

Standout Tracks: ‘95 Mega On Shrooms, Belt 2 Ass, Prada In The Polaroid, Cocaine Coltraine, Dreamcatcher & Shoot Your Trophies
