Album Review: Cordae – The CrossRoads [2nd Opinion]

Reviewed By: Southside_Gunn

Cordae is back to give us one of his most introspective albums to date. One thing about Cordae is that he’s gonna be a lyrical beast with his raps. You can tell that he’s very calculated, yet honest with himself and that translates very well within the music. From the opening track with the Bone Thugz reference, you get this overwhelming feeling of passion as he not only discusses his mother, but his mom and grandmother as well. His story telling ability has really improved since his last project and it allows him to convey that message to the listener.

The album sonically is very cohesive and it sounds very clean with the mixing and the production style. The project is definitely his best produced album to date by far. You have the subtle bangers but then you have those slower tempo type tracks that allow you to digest the lyrics and the story being told at hand. The song structure really is a focal point because the entire album reads like a book and it has moments where it climaxes and then brings it down for a change in vibe.

While this album isn’t out worldly by any stretch of the imagination, it is indeed a fine work of art and if his debut project was given a Grammy nod, this album would deserve the same… and more. I recommend this album. It’s pretty damn good.

Oh and yeah, there’s a Ty$ feature. If you already weren’t sold enough.
